Prostate enlargement could make a man fill a little of what it is like to push a baby.
Imagine what it would be like trying to urinate yet not even a drop of urine is coming.
Sadly, we have seen men who died as a result of this prostate enlargement. The pain, the anguish and all are things that no one would love to experience.
Most importantly, we have concerns about recent reports on prostate cancer and here are few things you should know about this cancer.
Recent Findings On Prostate Cancer
A 2019 study says it is the second most frequent cancer diagnosis made in men. As a result, it is also the fifth leading cause of death worldwide.
Prostate cancer may be asymptomatic at the early stage. It often has an indolent course that may require only active surveillance.
“Based on GLOBOCAN 2018 estimates, 1,276,106 new cases of prostate cancer were reported worldwide in 2018, with higher prevalence in the developed countries.”
Prostate Gland
The prostate gland is a small, walnut-shaped gland that sits behind the bladder in men.
In essence, during sexual activity, the prostate gland helps produce semen, the nutrient-rich fluid that carries the sperm during ejaculation.
As some men get older, the prostate gland can become enlarged. This condition is known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
Researches have identified different foods and beverages that could help men keep a healthy prostate and inhibit its enlargement.
Sadly, there are other foods that have been identified as likely enlargement triggers.
These foods and beverages have effects on testosterone and other hormones that could trigger enlargement. .
Foods To Eat
A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats is thought to protect the prostate.
1. Salmon
Salmon is rich in healthy fats that contain omega-3 fatty acids. These fats help prevent and reduce inflammation within the body.
Sardines and trout are other cold-water fish that are rich in these fats.
2. Tomatoes
Unarguably, this is very available in our markets and tomatoes are packed with lycopene.
Lycopene is an antioxidant that may benefit prostate gland cells.
Importantly, cooking tomatoes and making them into a sauce or soup helps to release the lycopene. This makes it more readily available to the body.
3. Berries
These fruits are also available in Nigeria and they should be eaten once in a while at least.
Most noteworthy, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries are excellent sources of antioxidants.
Foods rich in antioxidants help to remove free radicals from the body.

Basically, free radicals are the byproducts of reactions that occur within the body. They can cause damage and disease over time.
They come into our body as chemicals from food we eat and polluted air that we breath.
4. Broccoli
This and other cruciferous vegetables – bok choy, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage – contain a chemical known as sulforaphane.
Sulforaphane is thought to target cancer cells and promote a healthy prostate. These vegetables are also available in Nigeria’s vegetable markets.
Besides, inhibiting the growth of these cancer cells is one way to maintain prostate health.
5. Nuts
Nuts are rich in zinc. This is a trace mineral that is good for the prostate.
Furthermore, zinc is found in high concentrations in the prostate and is thought to help balance testosterone and DHT.
There are also fortified table water that now come with zinc.
Similarly, shellfish, legumes and pumpkin (seed and pulp) are also high in zinc.
6. Citrus
Oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits are all high in vitamin C, and this may help to protect the prostate gland.
Because these fruits also help build our immune system against free radicals that may attack the cells, these fruits are great.
7. Onions And Garlic
WebMD quoted a new research from China, highlighting how garlic can reduce prostate enlargement.
“Eating vegetables from the allium group (allium is Latin for garlic) can reduce the risk of prostate cancer,” it wrote.
However, maintaining a healthy prostate is more than just eating good foods.
This emphasises the need to avoid other types of foods that could trigger prostate enlargement.
Foods To Avoid
1. Red meat:
According to researches, daily meat consumption could triple the risk of prostate enlargement.
2. Dairy
Similarly, regular consumption of dairy also has relationship with an increased risk of BPH.
As you age, eliminating or reducing butter, cheese, and milk may help reduce BPH symptoms.
3. Caffeine
Meanwhile, if you love drinks with caffeine, this is a time to give it a second thought, depending on your age and your healthy-lifestyle target.

These drinks act as a diuretic, increasing how much, how often, and how urgently a person has to urinate.
However, reducing intake of coffee, tea, soda, and chocolate may improve urinary symptoms of BPH.
4. Alcohol
You should not be surprise when you see someone drinking beer go to urinate often at a bar.
Basically, alcohol stimulates urine production and frequent visit to the loo is the result.
Men with BPH may find that their symptoms improve by giving up alcohol.
5. Sodium
We have always recommended to our clients the reduction of salt intake.
Salt intake increases the urinary tract symptoms associated with BPH.
Finally, adopting a low-sodium diet – not adding salt to meals – and avoiding processed foods are helpful habits that men should adopt.
Alternatively, sea salt which offers us the natural nutrients in a salt is better.
