Ingredients For Gizdodo

  • 500g gizzards ( chicken or turkey )
  • 3 ripe plantains
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 bell peppers -diced. This depends on your choice  (red, green, and yellow).
  • 2 scotch bonnet peppers, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons of home made seasoning
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil

How To Prepare Gizdodo

1.     To prepare your gizdodo, begin by rinsing the gizzards and cut them into bite-sized pieces.

Place them in a pot, add water to cover, and bring to a boil.

Ensure that you let them simmer for about 10 minutes or until they’re tender.

Drain and set aside.

2.     Peel the ripe plantains and cut them into cubes. You will need to fry it.

Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.


Add the plantain cubes and fry until they’re golden brown. Remove them from the pan and set aside. Please, ensure that you do not add more oil. Too much oil is not a good one for your health.

You could use olive oil to prepare this meal.

3.     In the same pan you fried your plantain, add the onions, peppers, garlic, and ginger.

Sauté for a few minutes until the onions are translucent and the peppers are soft.

4.     Add the gizzards, seasoning, and little salt.

Stir well and let it cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will help ensure it does not burn or stick to the pan.

5.     Add the fried plantains and mix everything together.

Let it cook for another 2-3 minutes and you are good to go.


6.     Serve hot and enjoy your delicious gizdodo!

You can also garnish your gizdodo with some chopped parsley, celery or coriander if you like.

Also, you can sprinkle some black pepper powder on it.
