How To Make Yoghurt With Already Made Yoghurt

So many people wonder how to make yoghurt using already made yoghurt.

Unfortunately, you may have tried to make it using starter in small sachet and it did not turn out well.

Not to worry, you can still make your yoghurt at home by just visiting a store and getting one jar off the refrigerator.

Making yoghurt using already made one as a starter is a simple and convenient process.

Here’s a recipe for making it at home from already made unsweetened yoghurt.

Ingredients For Making Yoghurt At Home

  • 1 quart (4 cups) whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons plain yoghurt with live and active cultures (as the starter).
Remember to read the label of the product you are picking from the store to ensure it has live and active culture in it. Not all you will find in the store will have this active culture.

How To Make Yoghurt At Home

  1. Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until it reaches 180°F (82°C), stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
This step helps to denature the milk proteins and make it thicker.
  2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool down to 110°F (43°C).
  3. Once the milk has cooled, whisk in 2 tablespoons of plain yoghurt with live and active cultures until it’s fully incorporated. This yoghurt will act as your starter culture.
  4. Pour the milk mixture into a clean glass jar and cover it with a lid.
  5. Keep the jar in a warm place (such as an oven with the light on) for 6 to 8 hours, or until it has thickened to your liking.
  6. Once it is set, refrigerate it for at least 2 hours before serving.

Note: If you want to make a larger batch of it, you can increase the amount of milk and starter culture proportionately.
