“Staphylococcus capitis, was 100 times more abundant on dandruff affected scalps,” the study found.

Natural Remedies For Dandruff

If you have dandruff, the way you treat your hair would have to change. There is need to change your hair shampoo and hair cream for you to get rid of dandruff.

We have tried natural shampoo and we have seen results and this is why we recommend you shift to natural shampoo, hair cream and other products.

Here are our recommendations that researches also identified as effective against dandruff.

1.     African Black Soap Shampoo

Indeed, African black soap shampoo is one of the good remedies for dandruff.

Naturally, African black soap could dry the scalp, but with some essential oils and treatments in the shampoo, it works just fine.

Some of the oils that we often add to our African black soap shampoo for dandruff are also mentioned here as remedies. .

The added oils and herbs have antimycotic active ingredients. This ingredients combat Malassezia.

When you wash your hair with this shampoo, it cleans it to the scalp, leaving no flakes. Also, the presence of the oils moisturises the scalp.

2.     Apple Cider Vinegar

After applying a shampoo on your hair, it is a good idea to rinse with Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).

According to a study, apple cider vinegar can inhibit the growth of some fungus (4).

This study may have resulted in claims that it could also balance the pH of the skin to reduce the growth of fungus.

Since fungi is largely responsible for dandruff, people believe ACV wards off dandruff.

You can also mix AVC with some other essential oils that we will list here. Apply the mixture on your hair before you wash with shampoo.

3.      Sulphur

This is another compound that can help you get rid of dandruff for good.

According to a study, sulphur loosens the attachments between the corneocytes and allow them to get washed off.

This way the scalp is clean and oil can now get to it.

You may add some sulphur to your shampoo and wash your hair with it. Also, you can add it to warm water and rinse your hair with.

5.     Coconut Oil

Virgin coconut oil is a great oil to have at home if you are battling dandruff.

According to studies, the oil has antifungal properties that make it a good one to apply to your hair (5) (6).

You can apply it on your hair after washing it. Target the scalp when applying the coconut oil for maximum result.

6.      Shea Oil Remedy For Dandruff

Shea oil is also a good remedy for dandruff.

A study found that extracts from shea butter bark had anti-fungal effect.

At the end of the study, researchers concluded that “mentagrophytes were completely killed after 60 minutes contact time.

“This study therefore suggests that the bark of shea butter could contain high concentrations of biocidal substances against the dermatophytes” (7).

Moisturising your hair with shea oil would help fight the fungi that is causing dandruff.

7.      Tea Tree Oil

This essential oil also contains antifungal properties that make it a good remedy to dandruff.

A study says tea tree oil is effective in the treatment of dandruff (8).

You can always get tree tree oil from our shop or from Hausa people who sell essential oils.

8.      Eucalyptus Oil

This is another essential oil that studies say could be a good treatment for hair.

The oil contains properties that help fight antibodies that may rest on your scalp (9).

Another study also says eucalyptus oil has antifungal properties (10).

9.    Sodium Bicarbonate

Another anti-dandruff solution would be to add sodium bicarbonate to your shampoo or rinse your hair regularly with it.

A study found that sodium bicarbonate is effective against three fungal groups (yeasts, dermatophytes and molds) responsible for human skin and nail infections.
