Vaginal Infection: 2 Easy Ways To Use Clove For Treatment

Before you read the entire thing about how to use clove to treat vaginal infection, I want to share a story with you.

It was back in my days in a Nigerian tertiary institution.

I sat in class after a boring lecture period You know that type of lecture you wish would just end abruptly.

It was that type and I barely survived without dosing off.

Toilet Infection

After class, I decided to rest my head for few minutes before another lecture. But what I heard startled me to quietness.

One of the babes I know so well in my class began: “Babe, I guess I have got toilet infection from that our useless hostel toilet.

Ahhhh! “That thing dey itch eh”, her friend responded.

“How are you coping?” she asked.

“It has been really troubling for me. I am looking for a way to treat it. I heard that I could douche on hot water, with the steam going to my vagina and that it will end.

“Well, I don’t know if that works”. her friend responded.

I will prefer not to make my lady readers stone me when they see me.

Let me show you what I found about cloves and vaginal infection. It will really blow your mind.

Vaginal Infection

Vaginal infection is often a tough war for women, especially those who do not know this simple way of treating and keeping it away.

Here Are Other Home Remedies For Treating Vaginal Infection

It is a common condition that most women experience.

In fact, studies show that 75% of women are likely to have at least one yeast infection during their lifetime.

Many women experience recurrent vaginal infection, especially when they expose themselves to the cause again.

The most common types of vaginal infection are bacterial and yeast infections.

Vaginal yeast infections are the second most common cause of abnormal vaginal discharge in the United States (the first is bacterial vaginosis) (1).

Due to the prevalence of vaginal infection, researchers sought a way to help women overcome this horrible experience.

One of the plants that come with hope for every woman who has vaginal infection is clove.

People use clove (Syzygium aromaticum) more often as a spice.

But it has been in use for centuries as food preservative and for many medicinal purposes.

It is native to Indonesia, but it is now cultivated in several countries of the world.

In Nigeria, you may have seen or eaten clove. If you drink zobo, you are likely to have enjoyed it unknowingly.

Clove Activities Against Vaginal Infection

According to studies, clove possesses antioxidant, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-microbial, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, antithrombotic, anesthetic, pain relieving and insect repellent properties (2) (3).

Studies found that eugenol is the main constituent responsible for the medicinal properties of the clove bud.

A study describes clove as a precious spice because of its compounds that are beneficial to you (4).

Antioxidants

According to different studies, clove’s antioxidant activities are huge.

In studies of different spices, clove (buds) was found to present higher antioxidant activity and polyphenol content, tetraethylammonium chloride and of gallic acid.

A study highlights that the major types of phenolic compounds in cloves are phenolic acids (gallic acid), flavonol glucosides, phenolic volatile oils (eugenol, acetyl eugenol) and tannins (5).

Clove is a great radical (antibodies) scavenger and a commercial source of polyphenols.

Antimicrobial

Also, clove is good for the treatment of bacterial infection.

A study says the aqueous extract of clove at 3% showed complete bactericidal effect against all the food-borne pathogens tested Escherichia coli (E. coli), Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus.

This makes clove a good remedy for treatment of bacterial infection in the vagina.

Antifungal

According to a study, eugenol in clove has therapeutic effectiveness against candida albicans, which is a common cause of yeast infection.

Furthermore, the study says the anticandidal activity of eugenol and carvacrol was tested in a vaginal candidiasis model, microbial and histological techniques were employed to compare the samples with the controls.

The results suggest that eugenol and carvacrol could be a promising antifungal agent for treatment and prophylaxis of vaginal candidiasis (6).
